About The Fit is a retail fitting experience — in-store clienteling, remote fitting rooms and a lightweight shoppable feed.
The client wanted to move the fitting room out of the store and onto the phone. We built a small product around three surfaces: browse, try, talk.
The piece I'm proudest of is the associate app — a one-handed iOS tool that feels like a sales journal, not a POS.
How we worked
The research was mostly time on a sales floor. I shadowed associates at two partner stores for two weeks — not to extract insights, just to see how the handoff from customer to fitting room actually works. The surprising pattern: the hardest moment isn't the try-on, it's the conversation right before and right after. That's where the sale gets won or lost, and that's where no app was helping.
That shaped the decision to build three separate surfaces instead of one. Browse lives on the customer's phone. Talk lives on the associate's phone. Try is the intersection — a shared fitting-room state that both sides can see. I defended this split through a round of pushback from the client; the original brief asked for one app with two roles. The split won because every time we tried to collapse it into one surface, one of the three jobs got worse.
The associate app was the piece that took the longest. It couldn't feel like a POS — an associate sees a POS and immediately loses the sale moment, because POS interaction reads as 'I'm selling to you'. I landed on something closer to a sales journal: customer notes, fit history, the thread of previous messages. It's quieter than a POS and, in testing, got used four to seven times more per shift.

Closing note
A pet project around a single, opinionated bet — that the marketplace experience improves the most when one specific friction point disappears. Everything else stays standard so that bet has the spotlight.
